If you already know the basics of poker game structure, then you can directly jump to the section explaining poker sequences by rank. Poker comes in many shapes and has several forms. Two of the most famous poker game styles are Texas holdem and Omaha. Texas holdem is a style of poker game where each player is given two cards in hand. Whereas, in Omaha players are given four or five cards in hand, depending on 4 cards Omaha or 5 cards Omaha. Once cards are given to players, five cards are opened on the table. These five cards on the board are called as community cards and can be used by any player in any combination. Whosoever makes best poker sequence using five cards wins that poker hand and bags all the money in the pot. In Texas holdem, a player can i) use two cards of their given hand and use three cards from the board, ii) use one card of their given hand and use four cards from the board, or iii) use all five cards from the board, which is called as “playing the board”. Omaha is a bit different from Texas holdem. In Omaha, players can use only and only use three cards from the board and have to use two cards from the cards given to them (be it be a 4 cards Omaha or 5 cards Omaha).
